Meet Katie, CPDT-KA
Katie McGuire has been training dogs professionally for over 15 years, but her training career and education began long before that.
Her childhood consisted of as many animal activities as she could find! She spent her youth caring for and training horses, competing in gymkhana events and jumping competitions, volunteering for a local animal rescue, housing and training multiple foster dogs, and helping them find new forever homes. She also spent time training her own dogs in multiple activities like tricks, agility, obedience, sheep herding, etc.
Katie attended Moorpark college, taking classes like Dog Breed Identification, a part of the Companion Animal Studies program, and then continued on to receive her BA from the University of California Santa Barbara. During her studies she worked part time as an On Set Safety Representative with American Humane Association, making sure that animals were being treated humanely on the set of film and television productions. While at UCSB, she also completed an internship training dogs for the entertainment industry.
At this time Katie was working professionally as a dog trainer for a large pet supply retail store, and after completing her collegiate career, she was promoted to the level of Area Trainer, putting her in charge of other trainers at other stores, as well as training new trainers for the company.
Eventually, Katie decided that it was time to move on and create her own training business, giving her the ability to grow and develop her skills, as well as focus on dogs with problem behaviors, and training for competition dogs in different venues.
Katie is an AKC Canine Good Citizen Evaluator and a member of The Association of Pet Dog Trainers. With her own dogs, she trains and competes in agility, conformation, Rally Obedience, and competition Obedience, garnering many wins, and competing at the national level. She continues her education by reading, attending seminars, and consulting with other trainers as often as possible. Katie currently resides in West Hills, California.
