Kalei Mayer, My Best Friend Obedience Dog Trainer

Kalei’s love of animals spans back for as long as she can remember. She was very fortunate to have had early exposure to the world of positive training and modern behavioral science via world-renowned trainer (and essentially, stepmother), Shawna Karrasch.

In her professional life, Kalei has had experience in doggy daycare, grooming assistance, pet supply, and of course, training. She has now worked with hundreds of dogs, and even some other animals like horses, guinea pigs, and even fish.

She has graduated the Petco Positive Dog Training Certification Program, has studied under the Karen Pryor Academy Professional Program, and is currently enrolled in the IAABC Professional Dog Training: Science & Application course. She hopes to acquire her CPDT certification in 2024. She’s also greatly interested in the other aspects that comprise a happy and healthy dog, and will also be pursuing her NAVC certification in pet nutrition to supplement her current knowledge. Having worked several years in pet supply, she enjoys helping pet families select suitable food, treats, and other products for optimal care.

Kalei aims to provide a training experience that is informative for potential training geeks, yet approachable and fun for the more casual dog-enjoyer (or overwhelmed puppy parent). Most importantly, she extends her judgement-free attitude not only to the dogs, but also their people.

When she’s not working with other people’s dogs, she’s most likely around the house tending to her own pets: a cat, a fish tank, a ball python, and of course, a dog! Kalei got her Finnish Lapphund, Aamu, at eight weeks old, and takes great pride in what she’s learned from raising and working with such a unique breed. As a result, she’s a lover of all kinds of quirks and challenges that come with dogs- strong wills, big personalities, and all.
