Introduction to K9 Nose Work® - Foundation Class

Start Here with your NOSEWORK education!

Inspired by working detection dogs, K9 Nose Work is the fun search and scenting activity for virtually all dogs and people. This easy to learn activity and sport builds confidence and focus in many dogs, and provides a safe way to keep dogs fit and healthy through mental and physical exercise.

K9 Nose Work starts with getting your dog excited about using his nose to seek out a favorite toy or treat reward hidden in one of several boxes, expanding the game to entire rooms, exterior areas, and vehicles. As your dog grows more confident with his nose, target odors are introduced, and competition skills are taught.

Some of the many benefits of K9 Nose Work are:

• Dogs easily burn lots of mental & physical energy doing searches

• Searches can be done anywhere you can take your dog

• No prior training is required and no obedience is needed

• In classes, dogs work one at a time and rest crated or safely in a vehicle between searches so reactive dogs can enjoy the activity, too

• Shy or fearful dogs build confidence and overactive dogs put their energy into fun searches

• Stronger bond between dog & handler as handler learns to observe, understand, and rely upon his dog

Cost: $199.00 for 6 weeks (once a week)

Location: Pawparazzi Dogs Boarding and Daycare 8968 Fullbright Ave, Chatsworth, CA 91311

(Only crate trained dogs, you will be right next to your dogs crate and the crate will be covered) Bring your own soft sided crate or use ours. Crating is done in the same room as the searches so only crate trained dogs please. Ok to start setting at 20 minutes before, please coordinate dogs entering and exiting with instructor.

Introduction to Odor

***After Intro to Nose work*** DO NOT SIGN UP UNLESS YOUR TRAINER SAYS IT IS OK!!!

After you have finished a few levels of Intro to Nose work, this would be your next class.

Learn how to transition your dog from hunting for food, to hunting for a target odor. We will continue to build on the dog's love of hunting to incorporate “target” odors into the class experience. Through ongoing exposure to a variety of environmental conditions, further development of the dog's search intensity, hide placement and fun challenges we’ll prepare you and your dog for on-going fun and competition.

Working dogs must have completed Intro to Nose Work and/or been actively training for at least six weeks. Handlers must have completed Intro to Nose Work to participate with a dog. (if space allows we can add a 2nd dog attending with an experienced handler.)
