Demos for California Science Center

The email I received from the Coordinator of dogs! a science tail! Asking for referrals… here is how you can help!

Hi Karen!

Krista gave me a heads up about some of the tips you provided, so I thought I might send over some information about the programming for the Dogs! exhibition that you may be able to share with the agility trainers you are in contact with.

We are still hard at work looking for volunteers to showcase the awesome work they do with our canine pals, as a means to not only enhance our visitors’ experience, but to educate the community about the Human-dog bond, and would be ever so grateful if you could pass along some of the info!

Here is a break down:

Exhibition message:

The exhibition message focuses on the science behind the incredible bond between humans and dogs, one of the most successful inter-species relationships of all time! Dogs! A Science Tail explores where dogs came from, how dogs experience the world, what makes our bonds so special, and how to care for our canine friends, all through fun hand-on learning experiences with interactive exhibits.

As an exciting addition, we are hosting live dog demonstrations with volunteers from varying working /training dog organizations in our exhibition program space every day so visitors can learn firsthand how dogs carry out their specialized jobs, as well as learn the importance of play for both dogs and humans!

The programming of demonstrations is structured as follows:

Each day is split into two shifts, with a different presenter/organization presenting 3 demos within each shift. Shift 1: 10:00 am-1:00 pm; Shift 2: 1:00 pm-4:15 pm.

Each shift is broken down as follows:

10:30 AM

-          15-20 min intro of self, dog, show off a skill, etc.

-          15-20 min Q&A/“Meet & Greet” (Staff will facilitate allowing a few guests at a time to pet the dog – if permitted by demonstrator)

-          15 min break (optional/if needed)

11:30 AM – REPEAT

12:30 PM - REPEAT

Trainers are welcome to comment with the days they’d like to book and I will happily schedule it

Any availability trainers have in the next days to weeks would be spectacular! But I also know that schedules don’t always permit easy availability so let me know what works for you and we will be happy to have you whenever you are available!

If you or anyone you are in contact with would like to discuss details, feel free to reach out anytime.

Thanks so much for your feedback and help with this fun and educational adventure!

 Cheers!

-Britt
