Chrystal Jackson grew up in Oregon with animals always being a part of her life. She took part in 4H, learning proper animal husbandry. She was also an avid horseback rider. She competed in showmanship, barrel racing and much more. It was working with horses that she came to understand the use of positive reinforcement in training animals.
Chrystal worked at the local vet office. Her responsibilities were assisting with animal intake, prepping for surgery, helping with x-rays and assisting the doctor with farm calls. During the summer months, she would travel with her parents to different county fairs where she worked for Brad’s World of Reptiles, an educational outreach program which taught proper reptile husbandry. Part of Chrystal’s job duties included explaining in detail the unique qualities of each reptile to guests walking through the exhibit. As much as she enjoyed her position at Brad’s, her most rewarding job, however, was working for Happy Day Pony Rides, where she assisted in caring for the ponies as well as helping with the children who took great joy in riding them.
Being a ranch girl, she would often assist on her neighbor’s ranch, working their cattle. She was successful in teaching her Australian Shepherd Sheltie Mix to help heard cattle from one pasture to another. Later, when she moved in with her spouse, they raised their first Chesapeake Bay Retriever, Brizzbin, and took her through My Best Friends Obedience classes. She later trained her to compete in field trials, as well as dock diving.
Chrystal attended Animal Behavior College, where she studied dog training. She has been interning, learning, and assisting with private sessions and groups since 2018.
