MEET ALISON, CPDT-KA ABCDT
Alison recently moved to Santa Clarita with her husband and two rescue dogs Dexter and Charlie. Originally from Buffalo, NY, Alison moved quite a bit due to her husband’s career in the US Marine Corps. This has given her an opportunity to learn and help dogs in many places.
Alison's love for animals has always been evident. She’s brought home dogs, guinea pigs, rats, sugar gliders, and even a ferret when she was very young. While pursuing her bachelor’s degree in biology at SUNY Buffalo State College, she gained experience working with dogs at a daycare/boarding facility. She learned a lot about dog body language and became familiar with different breeds and temperaments. She took this experience with her on her move to South Carolina where she worked at another boarding/daycare facility and volunteered at the local shelter. It was here she realized her calling to help dogs who didn't have the greatest start in life find their forever homes. She became a certified dog trainer through the Animal Behavior College program while residing in San Diego. She spent time training dogs at the Chula Vista Animal Care Facility where she completed her externship with ABC. Since then Alison's had the pleasure of sharing her knowledge of using positive reinforcement with dog parents by teaching group classes. She hopes to help pet parents understand why their “fur-babies” behave the way they do and build a stronger bond and communication between them.
Alison takes inspiration from well-known animal behaviorists and trainers like Dr. Ian Dunbar, Patricia McConnell, and Karen Pryor. She is eager to continue her education and learn from the other experienced trainers here at MBFO.
